Are you reliable?

Are you reliable?  Can you be relied upon to do what you say you will do?  In other words, how committed are you?  Are you as good as your word?

If you are asked to do a job by Friday, do your colleagues know that you can be relied upon to achieve that task, or are they still waiting for a result 7 days afterwards?

You may be surprised at how few people are that reliable.  If you are one of them, you will be noticed very quickly by those around you.

Your manager will know that if she wants a job done quickly or by a particular deadline, you will be the one to ask.

It will lead not only to greater job satisfaction for you, but will inevitably enhance your promotion prospects.

But if you are reliable and committed, you will not necessarily be that way because you are seeking self-satisfaction or promotion.  You will do what you do because you love doing it.  You like your job and you enjoy that satisfied feeling of doing it well.

Although you may not be surrounded by a large number of people who are just like you, you will nonetheless know who they are.  You will know precisely who to go to when you need something done and they, in turn, will know that they can rely upon you.

When you are under pressure or the going gets tough, you will also find that colleagues come to your aid.  Why?  Because they know that you are worth helping and you are a valued colleague to them.

So you have great power within you to influence your own life and the lives of those around you.  If you are committed and reliable, you will receive commitment and reliability in equal or even greater measure.
